The Punjab Water Roadmap provides a comprehensive approach towards water provision in Punjab by aligning priorities of all departments and companies involved in the water sector. The roadmap was launched in November 2016 and the CM presides Stocktakes and reviews progress every three months. The provision of clean water is an oft-neglected but increasingly salient facet of development.
SMU’s works in tandem with PSPC and PHED on the Saaf Pani Programme, which works to address the problem of substandard water provision across Punjab, through initiatives such as the establishment of model filtration plants, water testing laboratories, and the rehabilitation of urban and rural water supply schemes. Currently, these projects have ensured the provision of clean water to 68 million people in rural Punjab, and around 33 million people in its urban sectors.
